Mrs. Edwina Hurst joins EEF as program coordinator

Mrs. Edwina Hurst, a native of Augusta, GA, played four years of college basketball at the University of Montevallo in Alabama and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology. Edwina has been married for ten years to Jason Hurst with two children, Josiah (13) and Jaisen (5). Edwina’s bucket list never included owning and operating a restaurant, but for the last 4 years she and her husband found themselves successfully serving their community through ownership of two Maple Street Biscuit Company restaurants…one located in Butler Plaza and the other located in Tioga Town Center.

Prior to this business ownership stint in 2012, after having worked for five years as the video coordinator for former University of Florida Women’s Basketball coach Amanda Butler, Edwina answered a call to move into the ministry. She worked for six years with Alive Church from 2012-2018 before the invitation to enter the restaurant business arrived. In leading the restaurants, there was more opportunity to have spiritual conversations, touch and inspire people, engage in their lives, and serve comfort in the form of food and fellowship. The restaurant became her ministry as she employed close to one hundred employees and thousands of guests over the course of her ownership.

“We are excited that Edwina is joining our organization, she brings a wealth of knowledge about the Gainesville community and unmatched energy to help our student population.” Kerwin Scott

In her spare time, Edwina loves to spend time with family and friends, travel, eat great food, and serve her community through church and local projects. Edwina is a currently a board member with the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce.

The Education Equalizer Foundation is seeking ambassadors, volunteers, and board members. Register for an upcoming ambassador training here.
