EEF to Recognize Dr. Rik Stevenson and Ms. Antoinette Davis at MDS Brunch

GAINESVILLE, FL (EEF News)— The Education Equalizer Foundation (EEF) will celebrate the achievements of outstanding leaders and students at the upcoming Million Dollar Scholar Brunch on April 19, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Open Door Ministries in Gainesville, Florida. This year, EEF will honor Dr. Rik Stevenson and Ms. Antoinette Davis for their dedication to education, mentorship, and community impact.

The event will also recognize high school seniors who have secured college acceptances and scholarships after participating in EEF’s College PASS (preparation, admissions, and student support) program. This initiative has provided students with essential college preparation experiences, including a comprehensive course at Santa Fe College, a campus tour of the University of Florida, and a visit to Florida A&M University (FAMU) during their Preview Day event, where they had the opportunity to connect with EEF graduates currently attending FAMU. Students received monthly ACT/SAT preparation, one-on-one college planning sessions with Dr. Carjie Scott, and FAFSA and scholarship application assistance. These efforts have helped scholars gain admission to multiple colleges and secure thousands of dollars in financial aid.

Dr. Rik Stevenson, an Assistant Instructional Professor at the University of Florida, is a theologian, historian, and diversity consultant whose research has deepened the understanding of African American history and resistance. His work, both in academia and through his consulting firm, has profoundly impacted education and cultural awareness. EEF Board Member Dr. Sharon Austin praised his contributions, stating, “Dr. Rik Stevenson is a transformative educator whose passion for history and justice mirrors EEF’s commitment to empowering scholars.”

Ms. Antoinette “Tonee” Davis has dedicated over 24 years to environmental education and community outreach as the USDA Urban Connections Coordinator. Her work in conservation and mentorship has encouraged countless students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to explore careers in environmental science and public service. EEF Board Member Dr. Crystal Bowman emphasized Davis’s impact: “Tonee Davis is an inspiring leader who encourages young people to see themselves in careers they never imagined.”

The Million Dollar Scholar Brunch will highlight student achievements and honor leaders who embody EEF’s mission of preparing students for competitive careers requiring a college degree. The event promises to celebrate resilience, academic success, and community leadership.
