Empowering Young Leaders with AKA Mu Epsilon

GAINESVILLE, FL (EEF News): Dr. Carjie Scott had the honor of speaking to young scholars at the Youth Leadership Institute, hosted by the Mu Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Greater Bethel AME Church in Gainesville, Florida. It was her second time engaging with these bright young minds, and the experience was just as inspiring.

As she spoke with the children, ages 8 to 11, she encouraged them to think about leadership, goal-setting, and the power of self-belief. The conversation was lively, filled with curiosity and eager participation. Then, an unexpected but powerful discussion emerged that showed just how ready these young leaders were to take charge of their futures.

When the conversation turned to recommendation letters, the students started sharing their thoughts on why they are important and how they can help them earn college admittance, scholarships, and jobs. Dr. Scott explained that these letters tell a story beyond grades—they showcase who a student is, how they contribute to their school or community, and why they deserve new opportunities.

One of the most rewarding moments of the day was seeing their excitement grow as they realized the power they hold over their own educational journeys. It was clear that they were walking away not just with new knowledge but with a sense of motivation to take their education seriously.

Dr. Scott left the event feeling grateful to the Mu Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., specifically YLI Chairperson Judge Meshon Rawls, for creating such an impactful space for these students. Their commitment to mentorship and leadership development is shaping young people’s futures in meaningful ways. The experience served as a reminder that investing in young minds today will lead to a generation of confident, capable leaders tomorrow.
