GAINESVILLE, FL. (EEF News) The Education Equalizer Foundation is proud to present an oratorical competition centered around ending gun violence featuring orators from Akwaaba Freedom School and EEF’s College PASS program. The program is funded by One Nation One Project and sponsored by The City of Gainesville. One Nation One Project (ONOP) is a national initiative with Gainesville and eight other U.S. cities. The goal of ONOP is to use the arts and culture to promote community healing and well-being.

According to Pew Research Center, “Black children, and teens were roughly five times as likely as their White counterparts to die from gunfire in 2021. There were 11.8 gun deaths per 100,000 Black children and teens that year, compared with 2.3 gun deaths per 100,000 White children and teens.”
Our orators will share their stories about the impact that gun violence has had on them while increasing their self-advocacy, overcoming any public speaking fears, and improving their overall self-confidence. As a result, our young people will be equipped with the public speaking skills required for life after high school including joining the workforce and attending college. They will also earn cash prizes! Third place is $100.00, second place is $200.00, and first place is $300.00.
