GAINESVILLE, FL. (EEF News) The Education Equalizer Foundation and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Alachua County Alumni Chapter partnered again for FAMU Preview Day. The event was a remarkable success that enabled students and parents to experience FAMU, enjoy lunch with current FAMU students, and meet with admissions counselors to begin applying to the nation’s #1 Public HBCU!
The event was made possible by the generous support of several sponsors who played a critical role in enriching the lives of young scholars. Brandi Terrell sponsored two outstanding students: Caleb Little from PK Yonge High School and Dekoven Belvin, Jr from Lincoln Middle School, signaling her commitment to education and youth development.
Similarly, Dr. Carjie Scott’s sponsorship of Greater Bethel AME Church Member Jalia Godette of Eastside High School was pivotal. It allowed students from diverse backgrounds to explore their academic futures. Dana Powers sponsored Christina Jones, a homeschooled student, demonstrating that support for education extends beyond the walls of traditional classrooms.
Joan Herrera’s contribution was equally impactful. She sponsored Brandi Lee from Newberry High School and Marlon Montgomery from Lincoln Middle School, highlighting the community’s dedication to fostering academic opportunities.
Wenona Whitfield also played a significant role by sponsoring Ryon McClennon from Gainesville High School, showcasing the power of community involvement in education.
The participants expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the experience. One student remarked, “Keep doing FAMU trips. They are really fun.” This sentiment reflects the joy and engagement such events bring students’ lives.
A family member expressed appreciation, saying, “My family needed the sponsorship. Thank you, Chanae Jackson (EEF Board Member), for soliciting funds to allow my child to attend.” This acknowledgment underscores the importance of financial support in making educational experiences accessible.
Another participant added, “Pretty encouraging. I just heard about you all, and I love this for our children. Thanks for your dedication to our youth.” This quote encapsulates the community’s recognition of the effort put forth by sponsors and organizers to impact the next generation positively.

The Education Equalizer Foundation works with middle through high school students and their families to demystify the college admittance process and provide scholars with the necessary tools to graduate.

We are a volunteer organization with no full-time staff. Last year, we helped over 100 students get assistance with college preparedness. This year, we will help 150 students. It costs $6.00 a day to provide services to one student. Give today.
