GAINESVILLE, FL. (EEF News) Dr. Carjie Scott, CEO and Founder of The Education Equalizer Foundation (EEF), and LaRaven Temoney-Louis, EEF Program Manager, recently attended the 2024 Talent Strong Florida Summit hosted by the Florida College Access Network (FCAN). The summit, themed “Access for All,” united leaders to promote equitable access to postsecondary education across Florida.
EEF has significantly impacted Gainesville, FL, and surrounding areas by providing critical resources and support to local students. Their programs have helped hundreds of middle to high school students prepare for college, fostering a culture of educational achievement and aspiration within the community. Through mentorship, tutoring, and college readiness workshops, EEF has empowered students to pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals.
A notable highlight of the summit was the attendance of Terrell Jenkins, a pre-college adviser at Santa Fe College. Jenkins has established a valuable partnership with EEF to encourage more students to choose Santa Fe College for their postsecondary education. This collaboration is instrumental in providing students with tailored guidance and support, helping them make informed decisions about their educational futures. The partnership between EEF and Santa Fe College exemplifies community collaboration’s power to enhance students’ educational opportunities.
EEF has attended the FCAN summit for three consecutive years, highlighting its ongoing dedication to educational equity and collaboration. Just last year, Dr. Carjie Scott hosted a presentation alongside Robert Mason, CEO and Founder of The Common Black College Application. This further demonstrated her knowledge and the network she utilizes to assist students.
LaRaven Temoney-Louis shared her positive experience as a first-time attendee: “I enjoyed the conference. As a first-time attendee, I didn’t know what to expect, especially since I’m a volunteer for EEF when many attendees do this for a living as their full-time job. I quickly learned that so many organizations are doing the work, not just talking about it, and there is room for everyone at the table. I loved seeing the collaborative efforts many groups from the same county have made to serve K-12 students. The mentorship, scholarship, and college prep/success sessions were great. It was worth the investment to attend! My highlight was hearing from and meeting the President of Miami-Dade College & learning all of the work they’re doing with their public schools to strengthen the direct connect to college program!”
The FCAN team provided insights into the “Access for All” theme, inspiring attendees to collaborate for student success. FCAN equips EEF with the knowledge to prepare middle-to-high school students for college, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges.
The 2024 Talent Strong Florida Summit exemplifies the power of collaboration and the commitment to “Access for All,” paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for Floridians.
